The application of computer vision technology to traffic detecting and information collecting is an important subject in intelligent transportation system, and moving vehicle tracking is the basic part. In this paper, we study the features of the vehicle, and apply vehicle detection and identification technology, in order to find a way to design a real-time and effective vehicle tracking algorithm.First of all, we study the theory of computer vision technology and analyze the typical vehicle tracking methods. Then, according to the features of the traffic scenes, we construct a mixture model based on the vehicle features. By using the mixture model, we propose a real-time algorithm for vehicle tracking. Finally, according to those methods, we design and implement a prototype system. Furthermore, based on this system, extensive experiments are performed.
