Drop call is a main problem in use of handset by customers.. Drop call rate is a vital guide line in mobile communications network. To some extent, the level of dropped call rate could reflect the quality of mobile network. This paper elaborates the causes and solutions of call drop in GSM system in the following aspects. First chapter introduces the network structure and the basic entities in GSM system. Second chapter describes the definitions of drop call and drop call rate and analyzes signaling process of normal calk RP and handover drop calls in detail. In chapter three, based on network coverage, system interference, hardware failure, parameter configuration and wireless transmission, the reasons of drop call has been analyzed, in addition, the solutions to all kinds of drop calls has been discussed. In chapter four, through RF and handover drop calls, analysis and solutions of drop call have been discussed. In chapter five, based on daily optimization experiences, the possible reasons for drop calls and the feasible methods to avoid drop call have been analyzed in some ways such as coverage, hardware failure, parameter configuration and interference. Through a serial of optimization measures, MOTO wireless drop call rate is reduced from 0.43% at the end of 2007 to 0.36%, the extent of decline reaches 16.27%.In conclusion, based on service and network demand, network optimization, associating the network statistic data with testing and analyzing all kinds of drop call events, by parameter configuration and hardware adjustment with various optimization tools, improves the network quality continuously and provides a high quality and efficiency network in order to satisfy the customer's requirement for network quality.
