Tool marks inspection is to research the formation and changes of tool marks images and make judgment. It has important significance in security-monitoring and quality examination. With the development of the society, traditional tool marks inspection can not meet human needs. Texture in the tool marks image implicates much information of the tool and reflects the basic features, so texture analysis is the foundation of tool marks inspection. With the development of computer image processing technique and feature extraction, realizing automatic inspection improves the development of tool marks inspection.According to the characteristics of a class of tool marks image, the paper designs and establishes a system of tool marks inspection, increases the efficiency. First of all, the paper is to preprocess the image using color image graying, image equalization, image de-noising and image sharpening. We compare different algorithms and select appropriate preprocessing algorithm. Secondly, based on the image characteristics, we use gray co-occurrence matrix to extract feature, design algorithm and compute the characteristic parameters.Last,the paper designs a system of tool marks inspection and illustrates the system of tool marks inspection's general design idea,software design and human-machine interface. This system can implement automatic inspection and recognition of this class of tool marks inspection, effectively reduces the cost of manpower and time, improves the precision of inspection.
