With the rapid progress of morden mobile communication, the bandwidth utilization and speeeh quality are becoming the main problem. The valid approach to solve this problem is low rate, delay, loss and high quality codec. To meet such requirement,ITU has enacted G.729 protocol in 1996.G.729 is based on CS-ACELP at 8kbit/s,and has the advantage of low delay, high speeeh quality. It can be widely used in the field of individual mobile communication, multimedia communication,IP phone, satellite communication,ISDN and so on.It is recommended to the telecom department all over the world by the ITU,but it is diffieult to realize in real time beeause of the high algorithmic complexity.Digital Signal Processor is widely applied for its real time process ability. The principles and implementation of G.729 algorithm on DSP processor are discussed in this paper. To meet the requirement for data large dynamic range, high precision and real time processing,Texa Instrtument high performance fixed-point DSP TMS320VC5416 is selected.Firstly it introduced the algorithm of G.729 with Conjugate-Structure Algebraic-Code-Excited-Linear-Prediction.Secondly aceording to the requirement of memory and running speed of G.729 implementation, the hardware platform is designed. And then this paper discussed the software system design based on above hardware platform, including the main program, the interrupt request service, data transmission program, speech acquisition program and speech coding.According to the characteristics of the algorithm and DSP chip,it also proposed some effective optimized methods on the level of compiler, algorithm,C language and assembly.
