Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a self-managing multi-hop network, which is not dependent on fixed infrastructure. The mobile nodes in the network have both the host and the router's functions. Therefore the network has the merits of flexibility, fast networking, better adaptability to environment and so on. Because of the distributed control, MANET is very survivable. It is applied to military affairs and disaster-saving fields broadly.Mobility model is used to describe the movement patterns of the nodes in the network. The selection of the most realistic and the most easy-to-implement mobility model is very crucial for the validity and feasibility of research. Therefore the thesis chooses mobility model as the research object, the performance of mobility model is thoroughly analyzed. The impact of mobility model on the performance of MANET is also analyzed by using the simulation software.First, the thesis introduces the characteristics and the systematic structure of MANET. Then current research of entity mobility model and group mobility model in MANET is analyzed in detail, and the performance between different entity mobility models is compared. In the thesis the Multi-mission Centre Point Group Mobility Model is put forward on the basis of Reference Point Group Mobility Model. The new group mobility model is also analyzed by experiment. Simulation research of the Multi-mission Centre Point Group Mobility Model with three commonly used mobility model is done by using NS2 simulation software. The on-demand routing protocol AODV is selected to be the routing protocol. In the simulation the performance of MANET related to different mobility models is analyzed and compared in packet delivery fraction, average end-to-end delay, average hop count and routing overhead. The results show that: the performance of MANET varies with different mobility models. The group mobility model is better than entity mobility model in four performance index.
