Mobile IPv6, as an effective complement to IPv6 protocol, providing a good support to the next node in the mobile and Internet communications, has now become a popular research topic. Due to the protocol itself, the mobile node in the handover process of handover delay and packet loss and other factors seriously affect the performance of the network, which some real-time traffic such as VoIP and so on is unacceptable. To improve network performance and reduce delays in the selection of handover, IETF has proposed a variety of programs for mobile IPv6 protocol to improve the performance of the switch. Mobile IPv6 is the core technology which supports next generation networks. How to improve the performance of its switch and to reduce the handover delay in the selection, has a crucial impact on improving performance of the entire network. Meanwhile, it's also the requirement of the development of next generation networks.This thesis is committed to the handover performance analysis and improvement of mobile IPv6. The article first analyzes the typical mobile IPv6 handover protocolā€”MIPv6, FMIPv6, HMIPv6, F-HMIPv6, and compared them; Analysis of the current hot spots to improve the protocol, also pointed out that for Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 protocol to improve the need for research. Secondly based on the expansion module of FHMIP1.3.1 on NS-2 simulation, through statistical analysis of experimental data, come to two conclusions: First, the typical handover performance of mobile IPv6 from high to low order of F-HMIPv6> FMIPv6> HMIPv6> MIPv6; Second, the handover in an anchor domain of HMIPv6 can effectively improve the performance of MIPv6 handover, and the handover between two anchor domain on the performance of MIPv6 has not been essentially improvement. the thesis to carry out the handover delay in between two anchor domain of HMIPv6 is too long, made a Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 mechanisms for pre-registration of MAP. The mechanism comparison of MAP-level list,and selected before and after the access router in the branch where the root node and have the same access router from the recent MAP pre-registration, thereby reducing the handover delay, reduce the packet loss rate; Through a mechanism for pre-registration of MAP, also can be avoided will be mobile node to maintain information and data packet transmission concentrated in one or several MAP, play a role in load balancing. Through design and experiment to the mechanism for pre-registration of MAP, from the results of performance analysis, its selection at the distance of the MAP, the average handover delay and load balancing of the three MAP performance standards should be better than HMIPv6 and based on the speed of mobile node set the speed of valve selection mechanism of the MAP,verify the effectiveness of the mechanism for pre-registration of MAP. Finally the author summarized the whole article and prospected the next step.
