The tooth arrangement and movement is very important in the virtual orthodontics treatment system, and it's environment is three-dimensional. The method to design tooth arrangement and path planning for tooth movement in three-dimensional space is a complex problem. It not only needs to seek the shortest non-collision path, but also request that path should be smooth as far as possible with certain security. The movement of individual tooth must meet the requirement of bio-medical and is constrained by the surrounding teeth. In this article, based on the analysis for the characteristics of the tooth arrangement and path planning for tooth movement, the tooth arrangement and movement is solved using the multi-agent evolution algorithm.Firstly, the initial and final position of each tooth movement must be given if carrying out the path planning for tooth movement. The initial position is already known, a desired final position is obtained by tooth arrangement. Excellent dental arch is the foundation to determine teeth's final position. So it is extremely important to determine the arch form correctly. On the basis of analyzing and comparing several mathematical functions for the fitting arch form, theβfunction is used to fit tooth's dental arch curve, and then the position and the posture of each tooth in the dental arch curve are determined.Secondly, the path planning of tooth movement can be divided into two kinds of movement which are translation and rotation. A mathematical model of the path planning for tooth movement is established based on the characteristic and medical requirements of the problem. Using weight sum of translation and rotation the multi-objective problem is transformed into an equivalent problem which can be solved by using the simple target algorithm. Then we can get the solution of path planning for tooth movement by using the self-energy and behavior of agent body.Finally, the results that obtained by multi-agent evolution algorithm is regarded as the path point information of tooth movement, and then the paths of the teeth movement are established base on those information. At last, the visualization of the entire orthodontics treatment is realized according to the process of the tooth movement with those paths.In this paper, an intelligent calculation software for tooth arrangement and movement is developed with VC++6.0 and OpenGL. The tooth arrangement and path planning for tooth movement are implemented.
