As one of the most important subjects in CAD application filed, parametric design is becoming more and more popular. The paper put forward the idea of parametric design for pneumatic punching system of glassware pressing machine based on deep study on parametric theory and basic methods for mechanical product design, and make secondary development to Pro/E, finally, successfully accomplished friendly human-machine interface for pneumatic punching system of glassware pressing machine.The paper, first, introduces concept and development course about CAD technology, then platform and tools for development and basic ideas for parametric design; focuses on working principle, structure and action process for pneumatic punching system of glassware pressing machine; gives a detailed description on ideas and concrete steps in using Visual C++6.0, Pro/TOOLKIT, Access 2003 to fulfill the secondary development and provide readers with an example demonstration and the way how to use the system; at last, aiming at part who is in complex forced situation among the pneumatic punchingsystem--the upper beam of double pressing machine, and do finite element analysisabout it, and then, do some qualitative optimization according to the analyse results.The system is built on the basis of parametric design idea, powerful function of Pro/E secondary development and resources of Visual C++6.0 MFC class library, combined with the characteristics of pneumatic punching system for glassware pressing machine. The system set parameters and relationships for three-dimensional models and assemble who were built in Pro/E, then write down all the parameters in Access data table as the database of the system. System uses ODBC to link Access with the MFC; uses dynamic link library to communicate between MFC and Pro/TOOLKIT, and then program to fulfill functions for parametric design of the punching system.The development of system has changed the traditional two-dimensional design mode of the pneumatic punching system for glassware pressing machine, greatly reduced design cycle and errors during the design process, and meanwhile, greatly improved the management on model base and database, fully reflected the application value in practice of parametric design technology.
