Synthetic ApertureRadar(SAR)is a kind ofradar,which synthesizean equivalentbigger aperture with a less true wire aperture by data processing method based onrelativemotion between the radar and the target. SAR works efficiently at all time andunder all-weather conditions,and plays a significant role in military and civilianapplications. The research in SAR has attracted more and more attention both at homeand abroad by now, and target recognition of SAR image is one of the importantapplicationsofSAR.This thesisfocuses on two main aspects: SAR image simulaition of different kindsoftargetsandthealgorithmofSARtargetrecognition.For SAR image simulation, a algorithm of SAR image simulation based on thescattering characteristics of targets is proposed. It includes the following processingsteps: (1) the 3D model of a target is developed and analysed; (2) the electromagneticscattering field of the target is calculated with Graphical ElectromagneticComputing(GRECO)method;(3)thescatteringfieldis exploitedtogaintheSAR imageof the target according to the SAR imaging principles.The SAR simulation imagesobtained from this algorithm is quite similar to real SAR images. This algorithmshortens computing time and provides necessary data support for the research in SARtargetrecognition.For SAR target recognition, a new recognition algorithm based on view-region isproposed. It includes the following processing steps: (1) The SAR image set of eachknowntagetissegmentedintoseveralviewregions,eachofwhichis asubsetofimageswho have similar characteristics ; (2) A prototype template is extracted to reprsent aSAR image subset in a view region of a target, which includes a typical target imageanditsparameters;(3)Inrecognizinganinputimage,theinputimageiscomparedwiththe prototype template,and the input image is of the same class as the prototypetemplate if the template is the most similar one to the input image in the database. Thealgorithm displays a high veracity and a fast calculation speed due to introduce theview-regionindevelopingtargettemplate databaseanduseaconcise matchingmethod.
