Airborne Light Detection and Ranging (Airborne LiDAR) has received more and more concern. As a new technique of data acquisition, airborne LiDAR can not only acquire elevation data quickly, but also gain a series of technique improvements in the field of remote sensing mapping and some other fields including topography surveying, water resources planning, 3D city modeling, forestry monitoring, and highway reconnaissance and designing and so on. Following the fast development of the airborne LiDAR hardware, the point cloud acquired become more precise and massive. As a result, how to process massive point cloud efficiently plays an important role in development of the technique.This paper introduces a software name TopLiDAR, which is an airborne LiDAR data processing experiment software which is self-developed based on MicroStation. The software provides functions including massive point cloud quick reading, writing and display, automatic filtering and classification and interactive editing. The software is developed in the Visual C++ 6.0, combining lots of library functions of MicroStation secondary development language MDL (MicroStation Development Language).In the aspect of massive point cloud quick reading, writing and display, self-defined data format combined MDL data format is used, therefore these embedded data formats can be processed better, also many complex operations can be executed efficiently. In the aspect of automatic filtering and classification, the filtering and classification method based on mathematical morphology is provided. In the aspect of interactive editing, point editing and facet editing are supported.By actual experiments, the data processing results gained by TopLiDAR is relatively ideal. A good basis for advanced optimal and improvement of TopLiDAR system is planted. A certain prospect of application can be expected.
