A new design based on the theory of Butler Matrix for the radar transmitter is studied in this dissertation. Most various advanced radar equipments are more widely used by the army for detecting, guiding, tracing and electrical mapping etc. to meet the needs for the national defense modernization construction as well as military electronics demand diversification.Since the transmitter system is one of the essential composing parts in the radar system, its technical level has a direct influence on the performance of the entire radar system as well as the cost of the system. Radar with Digital Beam Formation (DFB) receiver will take a high market share in near future due to its lower cost. However, the needs for higher power microwave components become one of the main constraint factors for its further development.A pre-designed research for transmitter of the multi-faceted array radar based on a comparative analysis of all existing radar transmitter techniques is discussed. This transmitter system, which employs a Butler matrix as its kernel, combines power synthesis technique and space radiation technique, and relies on a mature solid state transmitter technique, can be used for designing DBF strategic early warning radar to realize the function of separate sending and receiving. The Butler matrix is introduced from antenna subject by presenting the development of the radar and transmitter techniques. And then the basic principle and applications of the Butler matrix are presented. Finally, the characteristics of its power synthesis and assignment are analyzed and the preliminary programming is also put forward. A detailed theoretical analysis and simulation design for the 3db electrical bridges in the Butler matrix is done. From the beginning of the overall design of the transmitter system, the designs for overall channels and choice for components are processed, and the principle of modules circuits at all levels are given in the dissertation. Not only the operational principles of some vital microwave components in the system are analyzed but also simulations for them are carried out. At the same time, the integrality of this design is ensured after the design of the microwave control circuit and the antenna system were analyzed. The results indicate that this designed transmitter system is a prior technique which has many advantages, such as high speed beams switching, low cost, high reliability, no bottleneck limits for the power capability. Furthermore, the independent-working multi-faceted array radar (duty cycle, pulse width, modulation means etc.) provides the qualifications for radar detecting and the ability to resist signal disturbing.
