Besides using as filters and dispersion compensators, microring resonators can exhibit fast and slow light phenomena, and can control the group velocity of light. It has both theoretical and practical significance to research the light velocity control in microring resonators. In this thesis, first, the fast and slow light effect in the simplest microring resonator, i.e., one ring coupled to one straight waveguide, is studied. The changing of the group velocity and the pulse temporal behavior are analyzed for the ring with loss and with gain respectively. Then, the expressions of the insertion loss and the group velocity are derived for the serially coupled dual rings and the Mickey structure, respectively. The fast and slow light effect in these two structures is analyzed and discussed theoretically. It's demonstrated that compared with the single-ring circuit, the Mickey structure can give out a greater fast and slow light effect. Work in thesis may give a reference to understanding the fast and slow light effect more deeply.
