Againsted the requirement of laser ionization experiment in air, the article developed a Xenon lamp-pumped,Q-switched Nd:YAG laser amplifier.According to local oscillation stage' s operation material and output energy requirement, we selected the amplification stage' s medium with appropriate size, determined the stored energy density per capacity, and discussed the questions which were the matching of pump way between the two-stage and feedback elimination of amplification stage' s operation material's side surface .we drawn the amplification stage' s output characteristic curve with experiment datas, and discussed the relationship between the extracting efficiency of amplification stage and input energy of laser.Theoretical and experimental results showed that the amplification stage reached gaining saturation,and the extracting efficiency reached the highest in the case of local oscillation stage' s input energy for 379.5mJ.The biggest amplifying multiple was 2.68, the extracting efficiency was 90%, the largest output energy was 1015.6mJ ,and the peakpower density was 68.4MW/ cm~2 .Those targets basicly met the requirement of the design.Proceeded laser air breakdown experiment by making use of the developed Q-switched Nd:YAG laser amplifier.When the power density of laser was 508.6MW/cm~2 and electric voltage was 53KV, we could obtain 8cm length ionization. The results showed that the targets of laser amplifier achieved the requirement of air ionization laser experiment.
