In recent years, high-capacity communication satellites are the trend of development. The more the satellite transponders are carried, the larger the satellite payload becomes. Due to the restrictions of carrier rocket, the payload can not be very heavy. Therefore, a kind of folded-waveguides is designed in this work, by this way the satellite payload can be reduced obviously. The research of this work is the key technology for applying rectangular folded-waveguide in satellites. The process of packing folded-waveguide on the ground can be broadly divided into two steps: horizontal compression and vertical collapse. Horizontal compression means that the rectangular waveguide cross-section is compressed into a ribbon along the direction of horizontal, and the vertical collapse means that the folded ribbon is pleated several times along the direction of microwave transmission and make the volume of antenna becomes much smaller.Because of the resumption of a horizontal compressed rectangular folded-waveguide can not recover a standard rectangular cross-section, so the parameters of waveguide propagation constant and characteristic impedance are changed. The main study of folded rectangular waveguide in space communications focuses on the resolution of horizontal problem. This work uses finite element method to analysis irregular waveguide possibility of horizontal deformation. By the analysis of the effects of deformation on the electronic properties, it can be seen that the occurrences of wrinkle deformations are adverse to normal operation. In order to eliminate this negative factor, the following method is proposed: the narrow sides of the packing folded-waveguide should maintain parallel as much as possible. By this way, it can be unfolded similarly to the rectangular interface with a greater stress in the process of expanding, which guarantees the performance of folded-waveguide. The result of ANSYS simulation verifies the feasibility of the proposed method.Based on folded-waveguide, this work focuses on the analysis of the variations of waveguide parameter and performance that caused by deformation of expansion. The analysis is significant for the applying folded-waveguide to communication satellite.
