On the basis of summarization of domestic and foreign research and overall development trend of the cooling system of desktop computer, using the combined methods of experiment and numerical simulation, a optimal model was chosen by numerically simulating the inner three dimensional flow field and the temperature field of different CPU heat sinks with the help of Fluent. A circulation pump for the water-cooling system was designed by using implicit function and coordinate transformation, and the data from the optimal model of CPU heat sink and piping resistance experiment. The findings from the research showed that the resistance reduced after the model of CPU heat sink was optimized and the transferred heat amount increased; the designed pump could both meet the needs of overcoming the piping resistance and an adequate pump volume.
