As wireless communication and new business development and deployment, traditional fixed broadband access and mobile service have not satisfied people for high bandwidth and high rate of mobility needs, which makes the combination of fixed broadband access and mobile service. Broadband wireless access becomes the new technology trend. With high speed access, perfect quality of service and so on, WiMAX quickly becomes a new generation of broadband wireless access technology. This paper detailed introduces the design and implement of driver as part of the WiMAX SoC system project of Beijing Embedded System Key Lab. The SoC system is based on WiMAX 802.16-2004 protocol.This paper firstly analyses WiMAX standards, briefly introduces the system functionality partition and design of modules, and describes the functionality of driver.According to the system requirement, the driver implements two functionalities under Linux platform, which are device interface part and protocol-specified part. In this paper, the driver architecture is firstly introduced, and the implementation of device interface part is detailed after the analysis about the mechanism of Linux NIC driver based on PCI bus. The paper mainly focuses on the interrupt policy and mechanism of data write and read in the device interface part.The functionalities defined in CS Sublayer, such as Classifier, Packet Header Suppression (PHS) and so on, are made in the Linux driver. The CS Sublayer specified part structure has been introduced firstly, then the data structure design of the service flow properties sheet is emphased, which is the core of the CS Sublayer. Finally, the operation of classification, PHS, and service flow management are introduced in detail.Finally, the paper introduces the verification platform. Due to the independence of the CS Sublayer specified part, it is simulated on the OMNET++ simulation environment. The simulation result and system test result are given, which illustrates the system functionality and performance.The WiMAX SoC system driver design method and service flow's data structure will give a reference to future WiMAX system design.
