The distance between slider and disk needs to be reduced to meet demands for higher recording density of magnetic hard disk drive. It demands a fast and accurate numerical prediction of the slider's flying characteristics during the design stage. In this dissertation the following aspects are investigated: the static characteristics of the head flying over the disk surface are investigated base on continuum model, optimal design of flying attitude and optimal design of geometry configuration for the slider.First, based on the Fuikui's equation, the finite volumetric method is adopted to obtain a discrete modified Reynolds equation of the gas and the program is written to obtain the pressure distribution of the slider by means of Matlab. The simulation result of the pressure distribution is the base of the static characteristics and the optimal design of geometry configuration for the slider. Application of the method to calculation the pressure distribution of the representation slider illustrates the result is reasonable. On the bases of guaranteeing equation-solving accuracy, the method has been proves to be of rapid convergence. This is also demonstrated that optimization design can improve the slider's static characteristics by analyzing and comparing the result. Then, a optimal design methodology is proposed to get the slider's steady flying attitude parameter: minimum film thickness and pitch angle. Simulated Annealing method is used as the search scheme for finding the solution of optimal model. In the calculate process, the model need not to sure the searching direction. At last, an optimal model is formulated to minimize the variation of flying-height from the target values, along with boundary constraints and steady state constraint. Simulated Annealing method is used to calculation the model. Compared the flying characteristics of the optimal slider with the original slide, the optimal has better static characteristics and better the flying-performance.
