The characteristics of reflective cholesteric liquid crystal display (CH-LCD) are low power consumption, save images for a long time, light weight, portability and so on. It is the ideal electronic paper display device, and it has a wide application range. Its research progress of our country is behind others,we can only realize single color in China. This thesis primary focus on the research of experiments and technology of CH-LCD,and so as how to realize the multiple colors of it. A series of displays was made in our lab, effects of different technologies to CH-LCD's performance was studied,especially the effect of different rubbing strengths on alignment layers to contrast ratio. By driving the displays and observed under the microscope,we found that the contrast ratio of the display increased first and then reduced to a constant with the rubbing strength enhanced,and the reason is that when the LC molecules are in Planar texture,they arranged and the obvious multi-domain appeared,at the same time,when the LC molecules are in Focal Conic texture,the multi-domain disappeared as much as possible. Basic on the realize of good optical character single color CH-LCD,we prove the possibility of realizing multiple colors by stack two single color CH-LCDs,and the primary result was given in the thesis.
