Wireless sensor networks(WSN),which is made by the convergence of sensor, computer and wireless communication technologies,is a newest technology of acquiring, processing and transmitting information. It can be used for testing, sensing, collecting and processing the information of monitored objects and transmitting the information to the customer. It can be widely applied to military struggle, national security,anti-terrorism,counter-disaster,traffic management, environmental monitoring, medical and health.Consequently it has a wide prospect of application.Due to limited computing ability, power supply, storage space, communication ability of sensor node, and the general configuration of WSN in harsh environment,no man's region or hostile camp, so that wireless sensor networks receives more security threats than traditional network. In many applications, higher security requirements for WSN have been proposed, and security issues have been one of the main obstacles for the wider application of WSN.Due to the existence of a large number of nodes in wireless sensor network and the broadcast characteristics of wireless communication, base stations usually broadcast routing, control and other important information to the sensor node, whose security is directly related to the security of the entire network. In order to guarantee received information from the right source, node must be able to authenticate broadcast messages from base stations. Therefore, broadcast authentication is the basic security services of sensor network. The paper introduces the basic structure of sensor network and related concept, and analyses security issues of several broadcast authentication schemes for WSN based on symmetric mechanism, energy consumption of Elliptic curves digital signature algorithm, and discusses in detail the feasibility of its application to broadcast authencation for sensor networks. In this paper, elliptic curve signature algorithm has been studied and improved, improved algorithm(I-ECDSA) avoids complex computing inverse in the process of signature and verification, and uses a different key to sign in different time,so its computational efficiency and safety performance has greatly improved. Then a broadcast authentication method based on I-ECDSA is put forward. The new method is based on an asymmetric mechanism, and the recipient will be able to immediately verify the broadcast packets received.Consequently it overcomes the authentication delay issue ofμTESLA,so as to reduce the feasibility of DoS attacks. The paper analyses theoretically energy performance and security performance of broadcast authentication method for WSN based on I-ECDSA.,and verifies it by using network simulation software OPNET.Simulation results show that the new method provides a higher security performance under the condition of meeting the resource-constrained characteristics of sensor networks.
