Loading goods in a container is a process that loads different kinds of goods, which have their volumes, weights, values and numbers, into the space of the container with the space and weight limitation. It must satisfy qualitative and quantitative requirements. In qualitative aspect, the aim is to improve the utilization of the space and prevent goods from damage. In quantitative aspect, the aim is to maximize the value of cargos in a finite space.The dissertation introduces the research background and practical applications, and then categorizes the container loading problem. Following, it analyzes the complication of container loading, and summarizes the current research and points out the advantages and disadvantages of existing achievements.Most of the research on container loading deal with improving space utilization. However, in most cases where cargos are of different weights and sizes, the constraints of load bearing strength must be considered in order to avoid the damage of cargo. Few researches solve container loading with the constraints of bearing strength by using Tabu Search (TS). The dissertation is based on the practical application. The definition of the constraints of load bearing strength is described; the method for implementing the constraint is proposed. During the loading process, the method is combined with Tabu Search. The approach can reduce the damage of cargos and improve the space utilization.The approach is tested by using the published data sets. The results are efficient and practical. The paper also discusses the advantage and disadvantage of the approach according to the test results. The display pattern of results, including data pattern and graphics pattern, has significant in the container loading system. Data pattern can describe the sequence and position information. Graphics pattern can give the visual result which is more convenient for user observing.Finally, the conclusions of the whole dissertation are drawn and the future work is given.
