Based on the research on feedback PMD compensation, the feed forword PMD compensation are maily discussed. The research work in the dissertation are summed up as following:(1) The basic conception about PMD including the conception, the origin, the expression and computational theory of PMD are introduced. Then we mainly discuss some popular PMD compensation technologies in the current high speed optical communicational systems for developing the research on the PMD compensation.(2) This paper also gives a research on simulating the key technologies in the feedback of the high PMD compensation. Firstly, by comparing the performance of the feedback of the electrical power and DOP, it is showed that the two feedback signals have been linearly changed with the change of the first-order PMD, and the two items of second order PMD have not been linearly changed when there is high-order PMD in the system, but the performance of the DOP is better than the signal of electrical power. Secondly, this paper also analyses the effect of the high-order PMD on the DOP of NRZ and RZ. The simulation results show that the second-order PMD has obvious effect on the DOP of RZ, but not obvious for the NRZ.(3) Since the shortcoming of the feedback PMD compensation is difficult to carry out because of the long compensation time, we investgated on method to obtain the PMD vector signal for the feed- forward first-order and second-order PMD, and proposed a feed- forward PMD compensation method, and we give an analyzation and simulation to ensure the validity of the method, which is also the main research work and creative mode of this paper.
