Aiming at localization method and precision problems of WSNs, localization technology and algorithms are introduced firstly. And then researches have been carried out for WSNs localization problems, such as localization error, large scale WSNs localization, mobile tracking and localization network coverage; at last, combined with underground application, personnel and equipment localization system has been analyzed and designed.Methods of reducing WSNs localization error have been researched, gross error detection, weighted average and adjustment of trilateration network are used to solve the problems of gross error and random error, and get robust effect on initialized position error and edge measurement error. Based on dividing-conquering strategy, a multilevel localization model for large scale WSNs application is presented, and multilevel localization error process has been used to solve the problems of error propagation and accumulation.Aiming at the problems of localization error and colored noise, a tracking algorithm has been presented based on adaptively robust Kalman filtering principle. Filter computing has been intervened by using the methods such as linear fitting, construct self-adaptive factor, equivalent weight function and reliability factor. Simulating results show that the average position error of tracking is improved by 13~25.8% compared with extended kalman filtering in four motion model of line and sine curve under low and high speed separately, and the algorithm has the advantages of good adaptability and fault tolerance for unknown noise and observation anomaly.Aiming at the problem that mobile node can't be located while the number of the reference nodes is less than 3 in underground localization and tracing system based on wireless sensor networks, an assistant localization algorithm of underground GIS is presented which is based on Zigbee. By using the measuring data from the Zigbee networks and operating the layers and units to complete locating and tracing, while the reference nodes are not enough, and the area estimating, while no reference node. Simulating experimental results show that the algorithm can enlarge the covering area of the localization networks effectively, and in 3~8m wide laneway the error in point localization is 2.5~5m.Combined with coal mine application, personnel and equipment localization system has been analyzed and designed, and WSNs localization experimental system has been realized. Simulating experiment show that the localization system operates well and can get mobile node's position with low localization error.
