Compared with SAR and ladar, Synthetic Aperture Ladar (SAL) is a kind of high resolution imaging ladar, which operates under all weather, day and night, long distance and large-scale conditions. With the development of related technology, SAL has become one of the most important directions in imaging ladar field. The thesis introduces the basic imaging principle of vertical side-looking strip-mode SAL. According to the characteristics of the raw data obtained by vertical side-looking strip-mode SAL optical heterodyne detection, the traditional Range Doppler Algorithm (RDA) and Frequency Scaling Algorithm (FSA) are applied to vertical side-looking strip-mode SAL. Based on the basic imaging theory and imaging algorithms obtained, imaging performance of dot or dot array targets is simulated numerically by means of matlab7.1 software for proper system parameter and the feasibility and validity of both imaging algorithms are proved. Furthermore, several typical effects of practical SAL are simulated according to phase error effects in pulse compression, and some advices are given accordingly.
