With the development of DSP techniques, popularization of wide-band networksand continuous update of international video coding standards, the real-timetransmission of video signal through the network has been an important researchdirection in multimedia area. The development of multimedia processor is based on the high performancegeneral DSP processor. They have better performance in multimedia application, andthey are more convenient to use. TMS320DM642 is a high performance DSP fromTexas Instruments (TI), which focuses on the multimedia application area. Itshigh-speed computation ability (4800MIPS) and plentiful peripheral interfaces provideideal solutions for the applications of multimedia products, which also make it one ofthe ideal real-time video application systems presently.H.264/AVC is the newest video coding standard established by the ITU-T VideoCoding Expert Group (VCEG) and ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG).Under the same reconstructed image quality, H.264 can save more than 50% code ratecompared to the previous standards. As a result, it has been the hotspot in videocommunication researches. The main contributions of this thesis are researches and implementation ofreal-time network video transmission system. Firstly, we developed the videoprocessing system (DM642VPS) using TI DM642 as the core, including the design andimplementation of main modules. Then we transplant and optimize the H.264 encodingand decoding algorithms based on the developed system with remarkable performance. At last, we implemented the transmission of video signal based on the previous steps.Presently, the system runs well and the transmitted video is clear and smooth.
