As the development of internet, data services become more and more important in mobile communication system. From the second digital mobile communication system to the third digital mobile communication system, a transitional and flexible technology----EDGE(Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution)was presented. EDGE can provide high speed data services for users in the GSM network system which we owned now.This paper analyzed the advantage of EDGE technology, researches the detection and demodulation of two modulated signals in GSM/EDGE system. Also the ASIC design and optimization was presented in this paper.This paper concluded the specification of GSM/EDGE baseband part. Based on this, researches on the algorithms of the detection and demodulation of two signals in the physical layers .A simulation model of the whole baseband communication system was made on matlab and the simulation result fulfilled the specification.A common unite which used in the whole baseband was presented in this paper. It was used to realize the detection and demodulation modules in the system. For each sub-modules, this thesis analyzed the interface and realization structures.In the last part of this thesis, the RTL test of the whole design was presented and the result show that it matches the demand specification in the GSM/EDGE specifications.
