With the developing of the information management and the increasing of the speed of accessing information, the enterprises have more aspiration for storage capacity and speed. The appearance and the development of network storage fit the need, so the network storage had a good prospect. But the development of the performance testing benchmarks for network storage is slow. The testing tools for performance measurement are the traditional tools which do not consider the influence of the network on the storage. So they can not get the exact test results of the performance of network storage.This paper proposes one new method to test the performance of network storage which can easily exceed the maximum load of target and get the characteristics of performance in overloaded storage devices. The main parameter for evaluation is the response time and the throughput. Based on the network storage system for testing, the key of the new method focuses on initiating IO requests in a certain velocity continuously and the initiator will not be controlled and influenced by the target when the load is closed to the largest capacity of the target. The new method can simulate the real accessing situation and can reflect the performance characteristic of the network storage system exactly.The IP-SAN system is set up with UNH_iSCSI in order to study the performance evaluation. In addition, this paper also introduces the use of traditional testing tool and compares the testing data of new method with those of traditional tools. Some others are also recounted, such as the knowledge of C programming in Linux, the protocol of TCP/IP, livelock and so on. |
