Wireless sensor networks(WSN) as a brand-new network technology in monitoring and controlling integrates multifold functions including data collection, aggregation and transmission application, and it is an intelligent network application system. WSN has some obvious excellences such as adaptive self-organization, mini-size, low power consumption, working order under adverse condition and so on, and it has expansive application foreground in civil domain and national defense. The underwater acoustic sensor networks is an application of WSN, it flings down a challenges to the key technologies of WSN, because the underwater acoustic environment has its own characteristics. This paper first discusses the basic concept and the emphasis of the underwater acoustic sensor networks, and then focuses on the topology, energy consumption and the routing protocols. For the topology of the underwater acoustic sensor networks, the thesis introduces the two prominent distributed multihop topologies, and bases on the analysis of the special environment of the underwater acoustic sensor networks, it chooses the full distributed multihop as the topology of the underwater acoustic sensor networks. The most important target for weighing the underwater acoustic sensor networks quality is that the network energy consumption characteristic. Enhancing the performance of the underwater acoustic sensor networks, the most important thing is that reducing the network energy consumption, enhancing the network the energy validity. This paper reduces the node energy consumption from the network layer, the data link layer and the physical layer mainly. To optimize route, energy consumption is needed in the network layer. The main measure of the data link layer is reducing the collisions of data transmission. The physical layer mainly adjusts and optimizes the transmission power and the receiving power parameters to achieve the goals of reduction energy consumption. In the multihop route protocol, the system lifespan is due to the nearby node energy consumption. So this thesis proposes two kinds of improved plans. First, enhancing the density of distribution of the nodes around the gateway. Second, using the redundant gateway node. Both the two plans can reduce retransmitting traffic of the nodes around the gateway and increase the lifespan of underwater acoustic sensor networks. Finally, the AODV route algorithm and the OPNET simulation tool are introduced in detail in this thesis, and it does simulation test to the second plan under three kinds of different network size. The test results indicate that the test reduces retransmitting traffic of the nodes around the gateway and increases the lifespan of underwater acoustic sensor networks by using the redundant method.underwater acoustic sensor networks; topology structure; energy consumption; AODV; OPNET...
