The edge detection of image is a significant basis of image analysis domains such as image partition, target area identification and area shape abstraction, etc. Research achievements in edge detection have been applied widely and successfully in many domains, thus it plays an important role in engineering applications. As the unceasing development of telecommunication network and the rapid increase, it becomes an urgent requirement that the application of image technology in telecommunication network management system.This paper based on Datang Telecommunication Union Equipment Management Center(UEMC), implemented the application of image edge detection technology in telecommunication network management system. Based on UEMC topology management module, this paper studied the image edge detection technology in existence, via comparison and argumentation among vary approaches to identify action sphere of irregular area image, it comes out that use edge operator approach (use laplacian as the operator) to carry out edge detection upon area image. With this scheme, the author carried out edge detection upon irregular area image, transformed the data gained to coordinate information which can be displayed in the system, connected the coordinate points to get a close polygon, thus created controls accord with the area image. At last these controls were added into UEMC system, implemented the innovative application of image edge detection technology in telecommunication network management system.
