Topology control greatly influences the performance in the wireless sensor networks.Optimized topology architecture can reduce energy consumption and helps to extend the lifetime of network.First, the basic concept of topology control for WSN (wireless sensor networks) and its research status are introduced and analyzed. In these, the clustering algorithms are stressed. LEACH is one of the early proposed self-organization clustering protocols, in LEACH clusters are unevenly divided, cluster-head choice scheme is unreasonable and cluster-heads communicate directly with BS node which need more energy consumption. Second, A new algorithm for wireless sensor networks topology control is proposed in this paper to solve these problems, ie.LEACH-L, in this algorithm nodes` specific location is assumedly known. The algorithm keeps evenly clusters by dividing detected area into many foursquare sub zones; nodes` location in cluster and remained energy are considered to assure more reasonable cluster-head electing scheme; and a new scheme for intermedate nodes choice is proposed to relay packets, in this scheme, MTE algorithm is introduced to avoid cluster-head nodes to communicate directly with BS to reduce energy consumption. Finally, principles and processes of the simulation to the algorithm by ns2(network simulator 2nd)platform are introduced. In the end of this paper mathematic and simulated result are analyzed. Result shows that the algorithm has better performance in terms of network lifetime, nodes energy consumption and network throughput than LEACH.
