Batch reactor is one of the important vessels in chemical industry. With its time-variable, nonlinear, time-lag system characteristics as well as the complex mechanism of reaction, the control of reactor temperature tracing fast and precisely the required value is difficult which mainly affects the product quality, so the research on the reactor temperature control has been the hot issue in industry control field to meet with the rapid development of the new chemical products.Variable universe fuzzy controller is a high-precision adaptive fuzzy controller. With the proper expandable and shrinkable factor, the universe changes are sensitive to that of the error which make the control rules greatly increase, the fewer the error as the process variable reaches its set point, the smaller the control rule level. Compared with the traditional fuzzy controller, the one based on variable universe is better both in dynamic and static performance, from the control precision aspect, it's obvious superiority lies in the facts that it controls without the limitation of control rule levels and the lack of integral which are common for fuzzy controller.Carrying out full study on the process characteristics of the reactor in the Liaoning Key Lab of Advanced Control Systems for Industry Equipments, this paper designs a reactor advanced control system consisting of IPC, PLC, industrial control network, where S7-300 PLC executes the basic control function, and IPC is the operator station running WinCC which executes process supervisory, operation management and parameter optimization, etc.. With this platform, this paper designs a double input and single output variable universe fuzzy controller and applies it to the temperature control of the batch reactor in the lab. Through the repeatable experiments, it is obtained both the form and the value of the expandable and shrinkable factor. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is tested on the oil-jacked batch reactor.
