With the development of the scale of the battlefield environment simulation, a distributed battlefield environment simulation system with interoperability and reusability is greatly in demand. Each simulation member of the system could be developed respectively, and make full use of the advanced technology in their fields. Meanwhile, a three-dimension visual simulation member is needed to simulate a real-time and realistic battlefield environment. Because of HLA's good interoperability, reusability and separability, it becomes an important research orientation in distributed simulation of military application that combining HLA technology with some special visual simulation technology to simulate battlefield environment.Taking ocean battlefield environment simulation as the background, this paper analyzes the idea, rules and the interface specifications of High Level Architecture (HLA), does deep research on the knowledge of ocean water rendering and explosion simulation, discusses the method that is used to combine HLA technology with ocean visual simulation, designs and realizes a distributed simulation system of ocean combats with missiles. Under the distributed network environment, it has been studied emphatically that how 3D visual member produces the realistic ocean environment and explosion simulation. Additionally, it is studied that how to apply the time management service and data distributed management (DDM) service to the system.In order to realize the research content above, this paper researches deeply the design methods and the interface specifications of HLA. It also researches the ocean water rendering algorithm based on FFT and the explosion simulation algorithm based on particle systems. Correlative experiments show that these two methods are real-time and realistic. Finally, a distributed simulation system of ocean combat with missiles including 3D visual member and simple functions in the white is founded.
