With the rapid development of GPU technologies, it has become possible to implement real-time realistic water rendering and water volumetric effects rendering in a large-scale ocean rendering system. This paper studied many real-time realistic rendering algorithms about ocean water surface, underwater scene and shallow water, implemented the algorithms and integrated them into application systems. For the ocean water surface, this paper designed and implemented a whole solution which is well-adapted to the planet-scale system. The water surface was modeled with Clipmap algorithm and localization strategy efficiently, animated with statistical wave models which are implemented with FFT, illuminated with a physically-based BRDF model and rendered with many water-surface effects, including reflection, refraction, Fresnel phenomenon and the foam effects. The reflection and refraction effects were rendered with more efficient image-based algorithms. For the underwater scene, the paper introduced the physical principle of the underwater lighting, studied many relevant technologies, and implemented various underwater lighting effects, including Caustics effect, Godray effect and so on.Because of the underwater terrain, many shallow-water waves like wave shoaling, wave reflection and refraction occur when open sea water enters shallow-water region. The paper studied various shallow-water wave models, and implemented shallow-water rendering, including wave shoaling, wave refraction and white cap. Finally, the aforementioned algorithms are integrated into our3D Electronic Chart and enhanced the realism of the system.
