Because of the demand of higher I/O speed, larger storage capacity, expansibility and usability, the traditional network storage systems (NAS, SAN) have many limitations because of their architectures, which make them unfit for large-scale system. In this situation, a new conception - object base storage system (OBS) have been put forward in recent years. OBS adopt object conception to manage data and have powerful intelligence to fulfill advanced functions. Profiting from the ability of OSD, the heavy tasks of OBS can be distributed to several OSDs, leaving only manage tasks to system server. This architecture have good expansibility, security and usability, the system performance will keep linear increase with the extension of OBS scale.A designing and implementation method of the object based storage controller is given. Firstly, there is a complete analyse of the architecture and key technologies of OBS, and the foundation and designing goal of the object based storage controller is also put forward. Secondly, a principal design hardware circuit design scheme is given, then a PCI-X bus arbitrator, which is based on the circulate PRI arithmetic, is put forward, also, it analyses a new system bus—RapidIO. Finally, it analyses the work mechanism of the controller.Proposed a security authentication mechanism for OBS, the access control mechanism is based on role based access control (RBAC) theory, which assures the user's legal access to objects stored in object-based storage devices (OSD) and maintains integrity of the data, by setting a special security manager in the storage system, the workload of the file manager has been reduced, meanwhile, the using of improved SAKA between the security manager and the OSD to set and refresh the shared keys has also reduced the demand of the channel security performance.
