The thesis aims to study the gas dynamics and heat exchange system of the new 5kW transverse flow CO2 laser. Structural parameters of the blower for the laser were designed and calculated based on impeller theory. The capability of the heat exchanger was analyzed and calculated according to gas heat transfer theory. The key technology of gas flow and heat transfer had been deeply researched. The main achievements are as follows.(1) First, structural parameters including the size and the shape of vane of the blower for Transverse flow 5kW CO2 laser were designed, including the inlet and outlet diameter of impeller, the inlet and outlet angle of vane, the numbers of vane, the width and shape of worm wheel, etc. The research results showed that average gas flow rate was at 63m/s and wind speed in discharge zone was uniform with a calm change of air pressure.(2) The internal circulation of the laser heat exchange process was analyzed. Heat equilibrium equations for calculating the heat exchange had been also established. Theoretical analysis showed that the structure of the heat exchanger was correct and stable performance was achieved. Experimental results showed that average temperature in the discharge zone was at 25℃, temperature change was stable at 11℃in low temperature water, and the heat exchange capacity met the heat exchange requirement of work gas.(3) In this thesis, it is innovative that the light alloy materials was used for making an impeller instead of heavy steel materials, thereby the weight and noise of the blower was decreased. At the same time, the double discharge boxs and double-blower were replaced with single discharge box and single-bower, finally a new type of high-power transverse flow CO2 laser with smaller size and low cost will be developed.
