With the development of optical fiber and optical communication technology, optical fiber sensing is a new and rapidly developing technology in seventy times of last century. It stands for the development direction of a new generation of the optical fiber sensing technology. Because of the great developments of measurement and automation systems in the fields of military, industry and civil, optical fiber sensing, as an indispensable technology, is more and more widely applied. Comparing with traditional electronical sensing, it has many outstanding advantages such as high sensitivity, widely dynamic range, wide work band, integratable and immunity to electromagnetic interference. The phase modulated optical fiber sensing has the highest sensitive characteristic in various kinds of optical fiber sensing technologies based on optical intensity, phase, frequency or polarization modulation. Distributed optical fiber sensing technology realizes measurement without"blind area"and breaks through the limit of traditional single point measurement radically. It integrates sensing and transferring functions, and can realize far-distance and widely area measurement and monitoring, and obtain the spatio-temporal information of the measured parameters along the optical fiber in real-time and dynamically. The distributed optical fiber vibration sensor based on phase modulation can implement high precision orientation continuously, and has widely application prospect. In this paper, the phase modulated optical fiber sensor is discussed and analysed both in theory and experiment, and achieved signal processing and operational functions of system by software. The main contents are organized as follow:(1) Introduce the development status and trends of optical fiber sensing at home and abroad.(2) analyse and compare the principles and characteristics of different optical fiber sensors.(3) Design and introduce the optical fiber sensor based on Mach-Zehnder interference.(4) Introduce the principle of data collection and design the data collection module based on LabVIEW(Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering) software.(5) Design and realize the signal phase demodulation based on LabVIEW software.(6) Design and program some functional operation interfaces of the system according to practical requirements. (7) By analyzing the material functions and effects of the system, summarize and expect the whole paper.Finally draw the conclusion that it can realize the resume, analysis and location of the signal of the phase modulated optical fiber sensor by software method, and achieve desire of the system.
