Image inpainting is an important research topic in the area of image restoration, and also a research hotspot in image processing and computer vision. Its objective is to restore the missing or damaged portions of the image in order to make it more legible and to restore its unity in a way that is non-detectable for an observer who does not know the original image. Currently, digital inpainting techniques have found broad applications in image processing, vision analysis, digital restoration of ancient paintings for conservation purposes, text removal and objects removal in images for special effects, restoration of old photographs or films with scratches or missing patches, disocclusion in computer vision, errors conceal in videos, and so on.This dissertation is mainly focused on the methods of image inpainting. At first, we briefly introduce the background and the development conditions of the image inpainting technology nowadays, then depict several typical image inpainting models based on the advanced arithmetics in this dissertation detailedly, and discuss their objections. At last, we introduce two new methods. The first is"Adjacent pixels image inpainting based on deviation and edge interpolation", the second is"Image inpainting based on space succession direction".Currently, the main methods for image inpainting include "texture synthesis" algorithms and the algorithms based on partial differential equations (PDEs), which are either difficult to understand, or complicated to implement. On account of the matters, the method of"Adjacent pixels image inpainting based on deviation and edge interpolation"is presented based on"image inpainting algorithm based on neighbor pixels of the points. This arithmetic not only improves efficiency, but also makes the image edges more smoothness by disposing the edge of blank areas distinguishingly. Integrating the ameliorated image smoothing methods into image inpainting to perfect image inpainting technology, which can fill in the blank areas and make the image clear synchronously. Then discuss the texture synthesis method, analyze the arithmetic of using level line interpolation, and ameliorate the two methods. In the arithmetic of using level line interpolation with the operation of filling orderly and preserving edge which is in image retouching, space succession direction replace the level line to make the work simpler. The method avoids choose matching blocks from the known areas, so reduces the probability of error filling. The filling orderly and preserving edges use the technology of liner interpolation, which is a new method.A variety of experimentations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
