The technology of welding is absolutely necessary in manufacturing. In order to improve the welding quality and efficiency,and to save the manpower,the students of the domestic and foreign welding study continuously adopt many kinds of methods to develop welding research so that implement the welding automation.The key of the realization of welding automation is that a highly effective welding seam automatic tracking system is studied.A welding seam automatic tracking system is that welding torch adjust warp along welding seam in order to the center of electric arc concentrate on the center of welding seam.A welding seam automatic tracking system maily contains three parts:sensor,control system,excutive machine,and the sensor is the most important part.At present,the study of welding seam automatic tracking system is also based on the sensor's choice in domestic and abroad.Mainly includes:electric type sensor,electric arc type sensor,electromagnetism induction type sensor. The main technology of the system are testing and arithmeticof control.This paper presents an overview of the developmental situation and trend of welding seam automatic trackong system,and detailedly analyze and design a welding seam automatic tracking system which integrate electric arc sensor and machine vision sensor based on industrial personal computer(IPC).In terms of electric sensor, collecr circuit is designed contained current transformer, amplifier and A/D convertor. Welding current signal is analyzed and processed by the traditional method of signal analyzing and processing—FT and the latest method—wavelet transform in order to more highly precise and more convenient.In terms of machine vision sensor,a system of welding seam image processing based on VC have ability to image collect,image smooth,edge detect and ultimately distill welding seam edge and the center of welding seam,at the same time,to simulate welding torch movement according to the center of welding seam.
