The process of monitoring and control system is one of the product of the development of computer control and modern drilling engineering. With the computer controlling of drilling machine, the process of drilling will be more efficient, comprehensive and faster. Automation is the current trend of drilling industrial development. Through the drilling process monitoring and control methods, the process can greatly reduce the workload of drilling staff.At present, monitoring of drilling methods which is in rapid development. Sweden, Canada and other countries of the drilling rig industry digital control has a more in-depth research, to obtain a high scientific and technological achievements. The automation drilling study is still in the initial stage in China, but the current oil and gas resources in China is highly demanded and those geological survey are required to have a lot of drilling works. Facing to this trend, the study of industrial automation drilling is imperative. The automation drilling now is changing which from mechanization and artificial to digital and network-oriented. This is a major change and a strong impetus of drilling industry in China.This paper is based on the open projects of the National Lab of Science drilling–the Research& Application of Drilling Monitoring and Controlling System and also based on digital control of the geological exploration drilling technology projects of Beijing Kezuan Geological Drilling Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Atlas Copco Co.,Ltd.The control system is based on the XY-2 shaft-type geological drilling machine,with the distributed computer control systems, AC variable frequency speed regulator, stepper motors and sensors, we can get some significant drilling parameters: WOB, ROP , speed, flow and pump pressure etc.. Through various types of computer control algorithms, PID control algorithm selected for the drilling process to control the parameters. With the The experimental results and data, we think the design is reasonable and effective. The experimental system is a good basis for the further research.
