The Research Of Logistics Information System For International Freight Forwarders

The International freight forwarders, who may or may not facilitate themselves much access to direct controllable capacity, are the bridge between the vehicle operators and direct consumers of logistics service. They have large numbers of customer resources and cross-regional logistics networks, and they accumulated the experience of communication with the logistics relevant agencies (e.g. customs, inspection and quarantine) when they were acting forwarder in the long term. At the same time, as a freight forwarder with a considerable scale, they need to have the capability of warehousing, distribution and delivery. So the international freight forwarders need the mature logistics information system to solve problems in their business process. In particular, as the main provider of the third-party logistics service, they even need to pay enough attention to the procurement, operations of the supply from the commissioned enterprises, so the international freight forwarders need more professional support of logistics information system.An integrated logistics information system can provide a reasonable solution project for an international freight forwarder company to transform to a modern logistics enterprise, thus increase their competitive power.This paper first analyzed the background of the research, including the origin of the industry and its demand on informationization. Based on that, a detailed analysis on the operational process of the freight forwarder in our country was made, and the problems faced by the enterprises were also pointed out. And of course, the realistic demand for an advanced, professional DSS was concluded.Then the paper introduced some theory about decision and decision support system, on which the designing of the DSS for an international freight forwarder enterprise was based.The hardcore of this paper is that the author designed a data-warehouse based DSS for international freight forwarder: Based on the comprehensive analysis and understanding on the system operational demand, the author designed the overall framework of the system; constructed a data warehouse for the enterprise database; applied the OLAP to the system. By demonstrating part of the system, the validity and prospect can be concluded.
