Abstract/Summary:
Shupe effect is one of main factors affecting FOGs'accuracy. In an ideal situation, symmetrical winding of the optical fiber coil can effectively suppress the thermally induced nonreciprocity. However, in reality various non-ideal factors severely deteriorate the winding quality of the fiber coil. In this thesis, we implement a test platform for measuring the symmetry properties of fiber coil, by applying different thermal excitations to the fiber coil.The major accomplishments of this paper includes:The development of a test platform for obtaining the winding quality of the fiber coil by applying different thermal excitations, based on a three-dimensional (3-D) mathematical model of a fiber coil in response to different temperature transients. The platform includes a FOG optical system, a temperature control unit, a rotation station, and different temperature excitation sources.The development of a new approach for accurately obtaining the eigen frequency of the fiber coil under test. The method is based on the modulation-demodulation principle of the fiber gyroscope. Compared with the existing methods, this method is more accurate, faster and easier to achieve automatic measurement.The design and development of a Labview based automatic control and measurement platform. The main functions of the software include an algorithm for the quick and accurate determination of fiber coil's eigen frequency, a data acquisition module, a display and data recording module, an FOG calibration module, an Allan variance estimating module, an data processing module.The verification of the effectiveness of the measurement platform. Using the measurement platform and the associated software package, we performed experiments to determine which temperature excitation sources are more effective for getting the symmetry properties of fiber coils. By testing fiber coils of different symmetry properties, the effectiveness of our test platform in obtaining the symmetry properties of fiber coils is successfully verified.
