In recent years, underwater acoustic communication becomes a hot research topic, and people pay more and more attention to the underwater speech communication which is closely related to it. Whether from the military or the civilian field, underwater speech communication has far-reaching significances and broad prospects. However, due to the limited acoustic channel bandwidth, in order to realize speech communication in bandwidth limited channel, it is necessary to introduce a low bit rate and good quality speech coding algorithm. Aiming at this problem, this paper implants G.729 speech compression codec algorithm to TigerSHARC digital signal processing board for implementation.In this paper, the ADSP-TS201S hardware structure and properties are introduced, and the EZ-KIT evaluation board is developed simply to realize some basic functions with some practice programs. On this basis, the speech communication system platform can be established. In theoretical aspect, the basic principles and the algorithm structure of speech codec are described in detail, focusing on the G.729 agreement and the speech compression codec based on Mixed Excitation Linear Prediction (MELP). Both compression agreements are simulated and debugged in Visual C++ environment separately.After giving full consideration to the hardware environment, the G.729 agreement is implanted to the development board. G.729 agreement is analyzed with modules and ran in Visual DSP++ environment. A simulation system for speech communication in laboratory that can synthesize high-quality speech at 8kbit/s rate is realized finally. In bandwidth limited circumstances, real-time speech communication encoding function is completed in digital signal processing.
