This paper is based on the project of National Scheme 863 Project "Research of Standardization for The Device of Detecting Pipelines" (Contract No. 2006AA092324). A system for seafloor oil pipeline was designed and made recently to detect the deformation of the pipeline inwall. With the exploitation of marine oil, it has been found that submarine pipelines have been increasing every year. The accidents in pipeline transportation occurring frequently have gradually become an important concern. The accidents have not only caused enormous economic losses, but also brought serious destruction of ecological environment. However, in China, the development of pipeline deformation detcetion technique is very slow presently. And the detection instruments are very expensive overseas. Thus a high performance and price ratio offshore pipeline inside deformation detector is designed.The technique of pipeline deformation detection is a multi-field object, which involves many subjects, such as pipeline hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, sensor technology, subtle signal detection, signal processing and so on. The offshore pipeline inside deformation detector is designed based on PIC MCU, using eight displacement sensors to detect pipeline deformation. And the deformation data are collected by slave MCU PIC16F873A and stored in the Flash Memory. The master MCU PIC16F877A is mainly responsible for the communications between slave MCU and host computer and for time marking. This project uses Delphi to design the host software, and uses SQL Server2000 for data management.Firstly, this paper introduces the developments and applications of pipeline detection technique at home and abroad presently. Secondly this paper detailedly introduces the chosen sensors and inertial measurement unit(IMU). Then, the paper elaborates the hardware circuits, corresponding sotfware flow charts and host computer software. Finally, a summary of the paper is made in the end. It summarizes the idea of the paper and points out the research direction for the next step. It introduces the major achievements and the existing problems in the system. The success of the project has broad prospect in many areas. The system also has remarkable economic efficiency and social efficiency.
