In industrial process, it is more difficult to control the time-delay system. The research of control method and mechanism of time-delay system is always a popular topic in domestic and foreign process control circles. The scholars from all corners of the world not only employ themselves on some traditional programs such as modified PID control, sampling PI control Smith Predictor, Dahlin algorithm etc, but also look for more efficient and more practical control methods.Based on the summarization of traditional control methods in dealing with time-delay system, in this dissertation ,we bring out that predictive control has good prospect for dealing with time-delay system .Predictive Control can be divided into four types: IMC (Internal Model Control), MPC (Modem Predictive Control), DMC (Dynamic Matrix Control) and GPC (Generalized Predictive Control). Among them, DMC has advantages of convenient modeling, simple computing, and better robust. Therefore DMC applies to industrial field control specially.Time-delay system have some non-linear. It is difficult to the application of predictive control. This paper point out that we can introduce predictive control into time-delay system and it will improve control performance has clear effect. Especially is predictive control. It is simple structure, convenient calculation, strong real-time, strong robustness and adaptability. It can achieve more satisfied implementation. In the first place, the article analyzes that lag link influence to System performance. The paper discussed several conventional control methods. Analysis shows that conventional control methods have poor robustness. Smith controller is a kind of compensation control based on plant model, but it is sensitive to the variance of parameter. Predictive control don't need accurate mathematical model and treat large time delay directly. It has good tracking performance and it is robust to the model mismatch. So this paper compares several traditional time delay control to DMC predictive control. The results showed that DMC predictive control can overcome several effects of uncertainties and time delay. So control system has relatively high robustness.
