A mobile Ad Hoc network is a multi-hop temporary autonomous system of mobilenodes equipped with wireless transceivers and receivers. As a special wireless net-work without any fixed network infrastructure, it has extensive application prospectin military and civilian field. It has been a research focus in current network research. With the prevalence of multimedia application, it has gradually become an im-portant research field to provide quality of service (QoS for short) in mobile Ad Hocnetworks. However, as Ad Hoc networks have a lot of characteristics such as multi-hop, limited bandwidth resource and dynamic network topology, which makes it morecomplicated to provide QoS in Ad Hoc networks and provides network researchers newchallenges. This paper carried on extensive studies about providing routing protocols with QoSguarantee in Ad Hoc networks. According to the features and application demandsof Ad Hoc networks, the paper proposes a QoS routing protocol, Q-AODV, whichcan provide applications with guarantees in terms of bandwidth and delay, based oncomprehensive concern about average end to end delay of data packets and channelbandwidth available. Firstly, Q-AODV controls the admission of flows according toestimating bandwidth available and bandwidth consumption of flows, so it resolvesthe contention of different flows and intra-flow contention effectively, and guaranteesthat new flows won't affect the quality of existing flows. Secondly, Q-AODV doessome things like resource allocation and route maintaining for new admitted flows.Simulation experiments show that, Q-AODV can estimate local bandwidth available, flow bandwidth available and bandwidth consumption of flows effectively, and canprovide well QoS guarantee for admitted flows, also, it has the excellence of low delay, low packets drop ratio, high channel efficiency and stable performance, and it canadmit flows as many as possible in the case of maintaining the perform of the network,so Q-AODV fits the transmission of real-time traffic which is sensitive to bandwidthand delay.Research on providing routing protocols with QoS guarantee in mobile Ad Hocnetworks has been initial period stage at home and abroad, and is a new promisingresearch domain in computer networks. The research in the paper offers helpful refer-ence for supporting QoS in mobile Ad Hoc networks.
