In the current China, Hospital Information System should not only be popularized and improved, but also it should compete with systems of developed countries, solve the challenges, and capture the opportunity brought by the rapidly and revolutionarily changing health industry of our country. People's Hospital of LiaoCheng has 1800 ward beds and is the largest third-level polyclinic hospital of the western part of ShanDong province. Its existing information system was not well planed in the whole hospital point of view. It is composed by several isolated sub-systems and the management is carried out manually. Hence, the existing system can not satisfy the requirements of our fast-increasing hospital. In order to improve hospital management and serve the patients better, this hospital information system is established. In the development of this system, both the classical Waterfall Model and Rational Unified Process are adopted. The development language is POWERBUILDER and the database is SQL SERVER 2005. As for documents, both UML and the standard documents of software engineering are used. In this thesis, requirements analysis and the design principles of the whole medicine management information system are introduced. Its three modules, medicine warehouse management information system, clinic medicine management information system, and in-patient department medicine management information system are presented in detail. This thesis first introduces the current status of Hospital Information System in China and other countries. The background of developing this system is also described. The main challenges to be solved in this system are also discussed. After that, the whole system is briefly introduced. Requirement analysis and the architecture & design principles of the system are presented in detail. The design and implementation of some typical use cases are also described. Finally, security mechanisms of this system are discussed and the implementation of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) is presented in detail. The following is the main achievements of this system.First, business processes of the whole hospital are standardized. For medicine, from the buy plan made by the buyer to the sale to patients, all steps are well standardized, organized, and controlled, such as storing in warehouse, leaving the warehouse, redeployment, periodically check, checkout, payment, and wastage claim. Work efficiency is improved and the management is more clear and transparent.Second, in the industry, there are still no mature development standards of RUP and UML. With these techniques, communication cost can be increased and the development efficiency may be slowed down. In this system, RUP and Waterfall model are alternately used. UML and the standard documents of software engineering are also alternately used. By this method, the development policy and rules are standardized, and development efficiency is improved.Third, in order to improve the performance and reliability of the system, cluster, RAID disk, and database partition are adopted. In order to improvement security, RBAC is adopted. In stead of the user, the access rights are authorized based on the role. A remote backup system is used for improving the reliability of the system in the case of disasters.
