This paper introduces the concept of smart sensors, principle and characteristics, and analyzes the situation of the China coal mine safety accident, points out that the coal mine gas is one of the main hazards. The the basic approach of the existing gas detection and problems of equipment in our country coal mine are summed up. Development method of smart sensor gas is put forword, which integrated smart sensor technology and the traditional gas detection technology.Based on the smart sensor technology, computer technology and traditional gas detection technology, Design of a mineral smart gas sensor was completed. In the control system of hardware, Mega48v microcontroller was chosen as a core processor. The peripheral circuits are designed, which includes the gas sensor detection circuit, signal amplification circuit, the power supply module, the preventing high gas impact circuit, RS232 communication interface circuit, and sound and light alarm circuit. In order to improve gas detection accuracy and reliability, the multi gas sensor detection circuit has been developed, so, the foundation for Multi-Sensor Information Fusion is established. In software development, MCU code is writed in C language. The average filter to remove noise in the process of sampling, zero compensation algorithm, the compensation gas sensors zero point drift, Multi-Sensor Information Fusion algorithm were adopted to improve the detection accuracy and reliability of the smart gas sensor. The form of transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS) was designed.The calibration test device of smart gas sensors was constructed, which based on the mine standards. The PC-monitoring software is developd by means of Labwindows / CVI software platform. The calibration methods of smart sensor are presented, and automation and intelligence of intelligent gas sensor testing and calibration are realized, so, the accuracy and reliability of testing and calibration are enhanced.
