The traditional generalized predictive control algorithm has a huge calculation burden resulting from solving Diophantine equation. Aiming at this problem, a generalized predictive controller based on Toeplitz predictive equation is presented in this paper. The linear relationship among past input, past output, future input and the predictive output is constructed by Toeplitz equation, and then the future control variables can be solved directly without solving the Diophantine equation. After the receding optimization computation over a finite time interval, the weighted average strategy is introduced in the control law to improve control performance further. Both for the traditional and the new presented algorithm, the simulation comparisons of on-line calculation time, the tracing velocity for changed reference and the influence of varying control horizon on control performance are used to illustrate the rapidity and effectiveness of the presented algorithm. The simulation also demonstrates the positive role of control law weighted average in improving control performance.A Network control system consisting of the A3000 process-control system, SIMATIC S7-300 and MPI card is introduced as an experimental platform, and then the control algorithm and human-computer interface (HMI) are developed using Matlab language and the KingView configuration software respectively. Then the generalized predictive controller based on Toeplitz predictive equation is applied to the real-time control for a liquid-level system. In the process of real-time control experiment, the performance of the proposed controller is checked by changing the reference and the characteristics of the controlled plant. The experiment results prove the validity and feasible of the new generalized predictive controller.
