3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) Project is an evolved project with regard to UTRA and UTRAN, which is a technical evolution for the whole network, including core network. The voice services are implemented by VoIP. LTE mainly consists of two parts: wireless access and wireless network structure. Instead of circuit domain, there is packet domain only. LTE is the biggest project on new technique development launched by 3GPP in the recent two years. The main research work is to design and investigate a semi-static LTE uplink system level simulator. The primary accomplishments are determination of the whole system framework, building several important modules, debugging entire simulator, and data collection and comparison. It ends with the suggestion and expecting on the further research and application of this simulator. This work firstly introduces the development situation and key technologies of the Long Term Evolution (LTE). Secondly, the work describes circular flows, and a few important modules in this simulator. Thirdly, the work introduces the design thinking, related data structures and parameter configuration of this simulator. Finally, the work gives some deep analysis on the simulation results. This simulation system introduces a method to group UEs before scheduling, power control and HARQ, which is good for decreasing interference among UEs. Compared with the existent methods, this grouping method need neither network resource layout nor cooperation between BS, reducing system complexity. Semi-static simulation can research some instant performances of system, compared with static simulation; and it needs less running time than dynamic simulation. The results indicate that cell throughput of fractional power control is higher than that of non-fractional power control. Proportional fairness scheme gains higher system throughput than round robin scheme. The distributions of MCS and HARQ are very reasonable. It is observed that this semi-static simulator can fully embody the characteristics of LTE UP system, and accomplishes the research and evaluation on system capacity and scheduling schemes of LTE UL. It makes a contribution and a further reference to the feasibility study of LTE.
