With the continuous development of science and technology, people's needs are constantly expanding, particularly the need on communication technology. People hope that they can get such service with higher rate, better mobility and higher quality. Then WiMAX technology is able to meet people's needs. WiMAX technology resolves the problem of last one kilometer access.In October 2007, WiMAX becomes one of the 3G standards. At the same time it also increases competition among the various standards. At present, the development of China's 3G is also unclear, but individual operators have basically selected 3G standard. It is bad for WiMAX technology. Whether WiMAX can become a real 3G standard is unknown. So, it becomes a valuable problem what measure WiMAX should take in order to get out of this predicament.First, this paper briefly introduces WiMAX technology, and it analyzes the development trend of wireless access technology. Then it analyzes the WiMAX key technologies, such as OFDM, OFDMA, MIMO, H-ARQ, AMC and QOS mechanism. The paper focuses on the physical layer key technologies OFDM and OFDMA. It researches on channel estimation technique based on comb pilot in OFDM system, simulates OFDM system, and improves subcarrire allocation algorithm in OFDMA system. Researches on the WiMAX key technologies also include working principle, technical features, and so on. Then it analyzes WiMAX network including parts of WiMAX network and their corresponding function. And then it compares the WiMAX technology and other broadband wireless access technologies, particularly the original 3G technologies. It sums up various technical features of the technologies, which provide technical basis for the research on WiMAX network strategy. Finally, it analyzes the position of WiMAX in 3G industry in China and the problems WiMAX is facing. It also analyzes a variety of network programmers about WiMAX. Then it makes the best WiMAX network strategy in China.
