Wide band wireless access technology developed very fast and had many types. In this paper, another type of wide band wireless access mode, IEEE802.16, was introduced. It mainly applied in area of metropolis and can be transmitted voices, images, videos, data and so on, it also is one of access types of "the last one mile" and has many advantages. The IEEE 802 Working Group establishes the IEEE 802.16 Specification for broadband wireless access. It defines the WirelessMAN air interface specification, including the PHY and the MAC specification. WiMAX is World Interoperability for Microwave Access (Global Interoperability of Microwave Access) called, which is based on IEEE 802.16 standards. It's original purpose was to provide a multi vendor environment MAN, point-to-multipoint broadband wireless access. It is also often called WiMAX IEEE Wireless MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). In the paper, the technique and the testing for WiMAX were introduced, in addition, some problems of WiMAX applications were discussed.First, IEEE802.16 was introduced and analyzed quite detailed, included elementary characteristic, protocol model, physical layer, MAC layer and primary application. Second, introduce the test Test Specifications for the PHY layer in the IEEE 802.16d.IEEE 802.16d standards is for fixed network and 802.16e standards support the mobile Mobility . This paper concludes a filed test Specifications, which can more accurately reflect the key performance indicators based on the 802.16e, such as the link adaptive interference, support high-speed mobile performance, switching and so on. And the real test also proves the program is feasible.
